The Fir & The PolyWatt PLC

The PolyWatt PLC has been designed specifically to handle just about all the monitoring and control tasks found on the Fir. This includes everything from tank levels to autopilot functions.

The two main drive engine and gearbox controllers will make it possible to monitor and control critical drive system functions from the bridge, or for that matter anywhere else in the world.

The PLC stackup for each drive controller will include the following:

  • The main CPU board with ethernet connection to the ship's network.
  • One high speed comparator board for engine and drive shaft RPM.
  • One analog input board for engine cooling and exhaust temperatures. A second board will be added in the future to monitor engine and gearbox pressures and temperatures.
  • One digital IO board for controling engine speed, and drive system engagement.

The crane controller will make it possible to drive the crane from the main deck using a wireless device, tablet, phone, etc.

The PLC stackup for the crane controller will include the following:

  • The main CPU board with ethernet connection to the ship's network.
  • Two digital IO boards for actuating relays and contactors.
